Launch of Grape Britain, a Tour of English Vineyards

Bothy Vineyard will be teaming up with Mostly Books (recently voted the best new bookshop in England) and author David Harvey to celebrate the beginning of English Wine Week in Abingdon. Friday 23 May, 7 pm at Mostly Books, 36 Stert Stree, Abingdon, Oxfordshire OX14 3JP.

In 2006, an English sparkling wine was voted the best in the world.  Sounds too good to be true? Researching the full extent of vineyard coverage and the variety and quality of wines has been the enviable task of David Harvey who has a spent a year travelling around UK vineyards, from Chateau de la Mare in Jersey, to Leventhorpe in Yorkshire, and from the big challengers to Champagne, Nyetimber Vineyard in Sussex to great small producers like historic Tintern Parva in Wales. David Harvey will be talking about his findings and signing copies of the resulting book, Grape Britain at Mostly Books, while Richard serves Bothy Vineyard wines.  £5 per ticket, including nibbles.  Please contact Mostly Books via mark@mostly-books.co.uk or visit www.mostly-books.co.uk, or ring 01235 525880 to book tickets.

30th Anniversary Celebrations- Sunday 31 August, 6 pm

Each year we hold a thank you party for all our gallant pickers and helpers.....

2008 marks the 30th Anniversary of the vineyard, an occasion we feel worthy of celebrating. In 2008 we are planning a very special party with a pig roast, live music (Trad Jazz and Samba), a conjurer, fireworks and more!  We would like to invite our customers to join us and mingle with all the wonderful helpers that have made the vineyard such a success. Introductory Wine Appreciation Course at Bothy Vineyard

Directed by Michael Palij MW, one of the only 250 Masters of Wine in the World, WineMatters has been running passionate and informative wine tuition courses since 1994.  For the first time Wine Matters is running an introductory course in the art and science of wine (and spirits) at Bothy Vineyard.  The course is great fun as well as being very informative.  The quality of wines (usually 6 at each session) is of paramount importance and these are carefully chosen with a number drawn from Michael's personal stock, giving students the chance to try some older and more expensive wines.  A unique approach to tasting technique is used which is reinforced each week through the themed tastings. FULLY BOOKED.

Tours

Each year we organize tours for parties of 12-30, and this year we have had visits from WI groups, gardening societies, wine groups, corporate entertaining parties and even well behaved stag and hen parties (although we understand that they were not quite so well behaved at later venues). Groups were shown round the vineyard and now that the winery is up and running again, we were also able to describe our wine-making activities. The tours rounded off with nibbles and a tutored wine tasting.  Pictured below is the Slow Living Club on their visit to our winery.

If you would like to organize such a party do contact us soon as our diaries fill up very early. There is a small charge for these tours depending on requirements. For more information Contact Us.
